This series is spending three months on three weeks in the life of God's people, camped around Mount Sinai. This second sermon in the fall Numbers series took up chapter 2 — the arrangement of the 12 tribes around the tabernacle. Last week established that this book, though named "Numbers" (from the two censuses), might better be called the Book of Names — God's children don't have numbers, they have names — and that its Hebrew name Bemidbar ("in the wilderness") describes a people caught in between, between deliverance won and deliverance realized.
