Who we are

We are "people of the Book," which simply means that our teaching is Biblically-based and the unifying center of our worship experience. Our worship style is more traditional, incorporating a historic Reformed liturgy with a diversity of traditional hymns and modern songs. Although piano and organ provide most instrumentation, worship teams lead us throughout the month.

We believe God is calling Bethel to be: “A biblically vibrant community of the cross praying and working for the renewal of all things in Christ Jesus.” How do we work to accomplish that vision? We see our shared mission to be “Connecting to Christ, His people, and His mission.”

Our core values drive this process. And that is the value of “reaching up” – connecting to God in Christ, the value of “reaching in”-- connecting to God’s people at Bethel, and “reaching out” – connecting to God’s mission in the world.

Where we come from

Bethel CRC began in 1922 as the second Christian Reformed congregation in Sioux Center. The name "Bethel" was officially adopted in 1955. Our gracious God has provided a constant succession of faithful pastors throughout the years, and the result is that we have been confessing Christ and proclaiming the Gospel for more than 100 years.

Our current sanctuary was dedicated in the late 1960s and our organ in the mid-1980s. Our classrooms, nurseries, GEMS and cadets rooms, office and library as well as the kitchen were part of our 12,000-square-foot addition that was dedicated July 1, 2012. Our youth and discipleship center, dubbed "The Lighthouse," was dedicated Oct. 8, 2017.

We have endeavored to use these gifts to carry out a vibrant ministry to the glory of God. From the days of horse and buggy to the present day of global travel, we have lived in the grace and mercy of God in Christ, sharing one another's burdens and rejoicing to see our covenant children profess the faith once for all entrusted to the church, and sharing the Gospel in word and deed with neighbors nearby and far away.

Where we're headed

If you are exploring church, we pray you will find our smiles genuine and welcoming, our worship services Biblical, uplifting and Christ-centered, and our ministry to the world compassionate and God-glorifying. But our prayers go much deeper than that. Whether you are a church veteran or are fresh to the faith, we pray that in this place you experience nothing less than the fullness of God Himself. There is a place for you in God’s arms. There is a place for you at Bethel CRC!
